Auyán-tepui, the majestic plateau from which Angel Falls descends, offers an exceptionally challenging and remote adventure. Accessibility is difficult, typically involving flights to remote airstrips like Kavac or Canaima within Canaima National Park, followed by multi-day treks or boat trips, making it unsuitable for those with significant mobility impairments. Guided expeditions are absolutely mandatory for safety, navigation, and permits, as solo visits are neither feasible nor permitted. The dry season (roughly December to April) is generally preferred for trekking due to clearer paths, while the wet season (May to November) presents the most spectacular waterfall views despite tougher trekking conditions. Costs are substantial, typically ranging from several thousand dollars for multi-day expeditions, which generally last 5-10 days to truly experience the area. Visitors need a high level of physical fitness, respect for indigenous Pemon culture, and appropriate vaccinations for this truly wild and unique destination.
